School Meals

Free School  Dinners

From September 2026 there will be three types of free school meal:

  • Targeted FSM: pupils in households with earned income under £7,400
  • Expanded FSM: all other pupils in families receiving Universal Credit
  • Universal Infant Free School meals: these will continue for all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who don’t qualify under either of the above criteria. Families do not need to apply for these.

Please click the following link to register your details for our Free School Meal checking service: https://apply.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/eboracademytrust

If at any point while your child is at school with us you become eligible for Free School Meals the system will let you know. Our school gets crucial funding so please register your details even if you are not eligible today. Alternatively please call into the school office of a Free School Meal application form.

If you are eligible for Free School Meals, it may be that your child will still prefer to bring a packed lunch on some days, or even every day, but as registering for free school meals also brings extra funding to our school to spend in the classrooms, we are keen to encourage as many parents as possible to register.

If your child prefers a packed lunch from home please see advice on healthy packed lunches on the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes/#tips

School Meals

At Staynor Hall Community Primary Academy our meals are prepared by Apetito.   We believe that nutritionally balanced meals are key to supporting our children’s growth.  A variety, healthy school meal menu also encourages pupils to try new meals with exciting flavours – developing their taste palate as a result.    All Apetito’s meals are developed by their experienced talented team of chefs to ensure that all our school meals are tasty and nutritious.

Apetito provides food to cater to all allergens and intolerances.  They are able to remove risk whilst giving you peace of mind that your children are eating safe and tasty meals.  Apetito has state-of-the-art Campden Laboratory Accreditations (CLAS) compliant laboratories, and strict procedures make Apetito food one of the safest school catering options available.  Every batch of food that Apetito cooks is checked to make sure it is completely free of pathogens before it is released to the school.

Advisories

Children from Reception to Year 2 are all entitled to Universal Free School meals and are provided with a school lunch.

For children in KS2 please let the school office know if they do not wish to have a school meal and would rather bring in a packed lunch.    If this is the case we ask that you provide a healthy lunch that includes a balanced variety of food groups.  Sweets and fizzy drinks are not allowed.  Please do not send in nuts or nut products in children’s packed lunches, as we have some children who can suffer severe allergic reactions. This also applies to packed lunches for educational visits.
