Parents and carers are responding positively to our plans for closer working between Camblesforth and Staynor Hall schools – and a shared minibus will be arriving before the end of the school year.

There were good turnouts at public meetings to discuss the plans and now the minibus has been ordered and is on its way.

From September we will provide a shuttle service to collect children at Staynor Hall and take them to Camblesforth at the beginning of the school day and bring them back again later on.

As detailed in our leaflet (available to download here), Ebor Academy Trust is working on closer links between our Camblesforth and Staynor Hall schools – both to help parents who can’t get a place for their child at Staynor Hall and to boost pupil numbers at nearby Camblesforth.

If you couldn’t secure a Reception place at Staynor Hall and you have been allocated another school, can opt to change to a place at Camblesforth at any time. All you have to do is email schooladmissions@northyorks.gov.uk or call 01609 533679.

Further updates when we have them.

Plans include a minibus shuttle service and creative ways to enrich education at both schools.

Now that primary school Reception class places have been announced for September 2019, we await final numbers before deciding how to take these plans forward.

If you, as a parent or carer, decide you now want to opt for Camblesforth instead of the school you have been allocated by North Yorkshire County Council, email schooladmissions@northyorks.gov.uk or call 01609 533679.

We will update both school websites with more information when it is available.

This week has seen our first ever swimming sessions at Staynor Hall. I am delighted to say that with the excellent support we have received from parents, every child from Year 2 and Year 5 will now swim once a week throughout the summer term. Amongst the children, there has been a mixture of nerves and excitement. For some, it is an opportunity to gain water confidence whilst for others, the lessons will offer an opportunity to practice and improve a life-skill they have already begun to master.

As a school we are committed to offering the best possible physical education curriculum for every child. Swimming is an integral part of that commitment for so many reasons, not least for the children’s fitness, safety and general well-being.

For our staff team, watching the first session was an absolute pleasure, with so many of our children overcoming their barriers and seeing how their friends supported them and celebrated their successes as a team. Roll on next week!

In future years, there will be opportunities for other year groups to swim, to ensure all our children benefit from these excellent opportunities through their time at Staynor.

Children from a Selby primary school have had a taste of working in the music industry thanks to a collaborative project with Selby College.

Twenty-two children from Staynor Hall Primary Academy spent a day with the Music department at Selby College, recording and editing their own CD. The Year 4 and 5 children chose their favourite songs to feature on the CD, from a recent performance at the Young Voices event which they took part in at the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield.

Jacqui Schofield, Year 4 teacher at Staynor Hall said “The children have had an incredible day and learned so much about recording and editing music. They all had a fabulous time at Young Voices, so having the chance to sing the songs again in a real music studio and produce their own CD is very exciting! We’re very grateful to Nick Garside and the team at Selby College for giving us this great opportunity.

“The children are hoping to sell the CDs in future, with any proceeds going towards music development at the school.”

Selby College Music Lecturer, Nick Garside, who spent the day with the children added “The students sang really well, they were like professionals! You wouldn’t believe that it was their first time in a recording studio, we all had a great day.”

Staynor Hall Primary Academy has an ongoing and developing relationship with Selby College. Work to date has included a collaborative project between the college’s Art students and the primary children, resulting in artwork which will be displayed in the school library. Some of the Staynor pupils have also worked on a photography project, using the college’s photography equipment.

Staynor Hall Primary Academy is part of the Ebor Academy Trust which comprises 15 schools in York, Selby, the Yorkshire Coast and in the East Riding and the Humber.

THURSDAY 1ST FEBRUARY 2:30pm

The internet is amazing. Children can play, learn, create and connect – opening up a whole world of exciting possibilities. But with the digital world changing all the time, and children having regular access to the internet via different devices, how can you make sure your child is staying safe? The NSPCC and O2 have teamed up to put together an informative and supportive workshop for parents around online safety for children.

On Thursday 1st February, at 2:30pm, our local Police Community Support Officer, Elise Breeze, will be leading a session using the NSPCC/O2 resources which will include information on:

How to talk to your child about staying safe online

Potential dangers and how to set up parental controls

Staying up to date and safe with the latest games and apps

There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions. The session will finish in time for you to collect your children at the end of the school day. This session will not be appropriate for children and is designed to be delivered to parents.

We do hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend. In order that we can order enough resources if you have not responded via the Bloomz message, please can you email admin@sh.ebor.academy to confirm your attendance.
